WHY: When Steve Kubby was in jail, a local deputy asked him (paraphrase), "Do you know what's going on out on the Internet? We're feeling a lot of heat from people calling about your case. Isn't there anything you can do to make them stop?" The pressure works!!!
EXTRA CREDIT: Email a complaint to the
Placer County Sheriffs Department and protest their harrassment
of medical marijuana patients.

The Kubbys are scheduled to appear in court for their arraignment on Thursday, January 28.
Steve Kubby was the Libertarian party candidate for governor of California in 1998. Kubby uses cannabis medicinally to control symptoms caused by his adrenal cancer. Without cannabis, his blood pressure spikes to dangerous levels and puts him at risk for a stroke. In jail, Steve's blood pressure was measured at 160/125.
Steve Kubby has been an outspoken proponent of medical marijuana. He made the issue a central point of his campaign for governor. See: http://www.kubby.com.
Steve also played a key role in the campaign for Proposition 215, the California Compassionate Use Act, which voters overwhelmingly approved in November 1996. The Compassionate Use Act (now Section 11362.5 of the California Health and Safety Code) exempts patients with an authorization from a licensed physician from the laws against possession, cultivation and use of marijuana.
As Robert Raich, an attorney who is a member of the city of Oakland's medical marijuana working group, told the Orange County Register, "I can't think of anybody to whom Prop. 215 more directly applies than Steve Kubby. He has a physician's authorization and he was growing only for his and his wife's personal medical use."
Nevertheless, Steve overheard his arresting officers say, "That 215 doesn't apply here. Maybe it'll work in San Francisco, but not out here."
