The local initiative sponsored by Maine Citizens for Medical Marijuana did not collect enough signatures since the petition was out of circulation through most of the summer and fall while MCMM tried to find out what AMR was doing in Maine, what type of initiative AMR would file, and if it would be possible to run a combined campaign.  AMR never responded to the local concerns in Maine.

In January, the AMR initiative in Maine fell about 4,000 signatures short of the required amount.  AMR was unsuccessful in challenging their signature deficit in court. AMR spent $250,000 in Maine and failed to get on the ballot.  It goes without saying that a fraction of that money would have allowed the local grassroots activists to qualify their own initiative.
