Dear Friends,
Everyone has a strategy for fighting the War on Drugs, but where is the plan for actually ending this insane war? Prop. 215 may have shaken the Empire, but it was still only a strategy. Our glorious victory with 215 means little if you are still forced to hide a part of your life, behind locked doors, stuffed with towels.
Where is the PLAN to put some REAL POLITICAL POWER back in our hands? Where is the PLAN that will allow us to live as ADULTS without having to HIDE who we really are?
No one person or group can end the War on Drugs. No Senator, Congressman or President can end this longest American war. Like slavery, the War onDrugs has become totally institutionalized within the government.
Until now, nobody has put a plan on the table for ending this war, or for that matter, ending a regime which seeks to prohibit us at every turn, making every human weakness a federal crime. Prop. 215 only poked the beast in the eye. Where is the PLAN to KILL the BEAST OF PROHIBITION -- ONCE AND FOR ALL?!!!
I have a simple two step program for ending this longest of American wars:
Step One: Get elected as Governor
Step Two: Order Judges to Read Juries Their Rights
Getting elected may seem impossible, but it is not. Later in this letter, I'll tell you exactly why we believe we can win.
Now consider Step Two. As Governor, I will
order all judges to fully inform juries of their right to judge the soundness
of the law as well as the guilt or innocense of the accused. Any defendant
convicted by a jury which has not been properly informed by the judge of
its powers will be
immediately pardoned by me -- forcing judges to obey the Constitution and
forcing prosecutors to demand informed juries, less they lose their hard
fought case to a pardon.
Citizens serving on juries are supposed to have veto power over bad laws, because it provides a critical check and balance on excessive government. Our founders hated tyranny and believed in limiting government by placing their trust in citizen juries to overturn bad laws -- just as colonial juries commonly overturned bad laws handed down from King George. These days, corrupt judges and politicians have taken control of the courts. Only a Governor can fix this broken check and balance and restore this powerful right for ordinary citizens -- a right which was considered so important, that it was included in both the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Slavery and Alcohol Prohibition are just
two examples of how informed juries, refusing to convict those charged
under these laws, were ultimately able to force their repeal. Once judges
start reading juries their rights, ordinary citizens will finally have
a real voice in government. Citizens
will once again have the political power that our founding fathers intended
for us under our American jury system.
There you have it, a simple plan for ending the reign of terror that constantly threatens our lives. A plan that will take just 18 months to achieve and it's on the table ready for you to examine and fault. Just remember, this is the ONLY plan we have to date.
What makes us think we can win? There's
never been a Governor's race like this before. New rules and an Open Primary
has created a huge window of opportunity for a dark horse to win. Even
the experts are saying that anyone could win this race. The Libertarian
Party is already solidly behind
us. We already have dozens of volunteers. We've even hired a professional
campaign manager who has raised large sums of money before for political
campaigns and intends to raise $10 million for this campaign.
It's time to stop tolerating this repressive political system and FIGHT!
So...
PLEASE get off the FENCE and SUPPORT this campaign.
HELP us FIGHT for real POLITICAL POWER--and the day that we can all STOP HIDING BEHIND LOCKED DOORS and finally begin living in FREE and OPEN SOCIETY
